celebrating the new year

Happy New Year!

Dearest Friend,

Celebrating New Year’s isn’t a big thing for me. I mean, I’m grateful to be here another year but when it comes to staying up and ushering the New Year in, I could honestly care less.

In the past I would try and make a big deal out of the celebration for my children. We would make all kinds of finger foods, buy grape juice that looked like champagne, and we would wear an assortment of party hats and use noise makers. Now, that they are teenagers, I’m lucky if I can make it until 11:00 p.m. and it doesn’t bother me a bit. I’m perfectly content in the role of “party pooper.” I am curious though, is it a big deal to you? Has it always been a big deal to you? I don’t remember ever really getting excited about it. Maybe I’m missing out?

Well, whatever you do this New Year’s Eve, I hope that you stay safe. I wish you an abundance of beautiful moments that make you happy and give you peace in the upcoming year. See you in 2017!

With love and gratitude,

  1. When I was younger I used to stay up every new years eve, but now with a little one I know that regardless of how late I stay up, he will be awake at 5-6am and looking for attention! So I’m quite happy to fall asleep at my usual time now 🙂 maybe in a year or two he’ll be staying up with me, but we’re not quite there yet! Have a great new year Diane 🙂

    1. Hi Mike. I think that’s how I transitioned too. When the kids finally fell asleep, I was right there with them. Grab it while you can kinda thing. I think if I was at a party I could stay up. At least I hope so. 😉 Happy New Year to you Mike. Thanks for all the great reads in 2016. Cheers!
